Day 84: #SunriseProject
Burnt.
Today, we head up to Church Park. Climbed up Road 8801, into the scene of the Church Park Fire that happened in 2010.
The fire was human-caused.
I get that some wildfires can be good for the forest.
And maybe it’s because I grew up with Smokey the Bear telling me, “You can prevent forest fires,” they just make me sad.
Like, I could have prevented this from happening.
Like, I let Smokey down!
But if I look closer at the forest, I can see it coming back to life.
There are small aspens popping up everywhere.
And lots of small green plants on the forest floor.
And even some flowers.
So, even though seeing the scarred landscape is rough, it is slowly growing back...rebuilding itself...better than before.
