Day 36: #SunriseProject
It’s May Day.
When I was growing up, we would make May baskets for our neighbors.
As a very talented craft enthusiast, my mom created a basket pattern out of cardboard that my brother and I would trace on construction paper.
After we traced our pattern, we’d carefully cut out our basket, fold it, and glue it together.
Then we’d decorate it.
We’d fill the baskets with popcorn and chocolates and drop them off on our neighbor’s front steps.
My mom loves May Day.
It was until years later, while traveling through Argentina, that I learned that May Day shared a holiday with International Workers’ Day.
Let’s just say that Buenos Aires threw a celebration that was completely different from what I thought May Day was all about…
...a celebration of spring.
In some parts of the world, it’s about recognizing the working class.
So if you’re wondering why there are scheduled strikes today, it’s International Workers’ Day too.
